use & integration of photography
Introduction
The Use & Integration of Photography section of my website showcases the fourth project that I completed for my Digital Photography in Instruction course at the University of West Georgia. For this project, I designed a one-day professional development workshop that incorporates what we have learned in this course. This workshop takes place at a local community center called the Sautee Nacoochee Community Center. My workshop is designed to teach teachers how to incorporate digital photo stories into their classrooms. The workshop will open by showing a PowerPoint presentation about pet adoption. Then, I will present a photo story about pet adoption. We, as a group, will have an open discussion about whether the PowerPoint or the photo story was more meaningful, more engaging, more memorable, and more influential. Then, the work begins. Teachers will break into groups to review peer-reviewed articles that explain how photo stories improve engagement in the classroom. After this discussion, teachers will present their findings to the entire workshop. After a short break, we will discuss ideas of how teachers might use photo stories in their classrooms. Then, teachers will break into grade level groups to review their standards and choose at least four standards in which the teacher could incorporate digital photo stories in the classroom. After this, I will do a presentation on the elements and principles of photography to prepare the teachers to take their own pictures to create their own photo story. After this presentation, the teachers will be given a guided tour of the Community Center and time to take photographs of the area. Teachers can take as many photographs as they want, but they should have at least one photograph to represent each of the seven elements of photography and at least one photograph to represent each of the nine principles of photography. After this, we'll take a lunch break. After lunch, I will present how to use the program Kizoa and will walk the teachers through some of the steps to prepare them to make their own photo stories. Then, teachers will break into grade level groups and will create a promo photo story about the Sautee Nacoochee Community Center. This is the culminating project-based learning activity for the teachers. At the end of the day, the teachers will present their photo stories to the entire group.
