balance
Balance in a photograph refers to the literal balance from one side of the photo to the other. Balance in a photograph can be symmetry in a photograph, but it can also mean the balancing of various objects from one side of an image to the other, even if some objects are larger and some are smaller (Berdan, 2004). When I was looking for balance in a photograph, it was easier for me to show balance by showing images that were nearly symmetrical. The title image of this page shows two symmetrical swings at the playground side by side. The first showcase image is symmetrical and shows the two staircases of our local community center with the flagpole in the middle. The second image shows the Nacoochee Presbyterian church and the balance of the staircase and the greenery around it. The Nacoochee Bell pictured third also shows balance and symmetry. The last image is my daughter and her friend on the swings. I love this one because the swings are balanced, the girls are balanced, and even the trees in the background are balanced.
