framing
Framing occurs in a photograph when the photographer uses an object in the photograph as a frame around the subject of the photograph. Framing often occurs using windows and doors. For my header photograph on this page, a set of chair legs frame my son, Nolan’s, face as he’s peeking from behind the chair. In the first showcase photograph, my son, Charlie’s face and upper body are framed by a piece of equipment on the playground. In the second showcase photograph, our dog, Lulu is being framed by one of the windowpanes on one of our French doors. I love this one because Lulu looks like she’s desperate to be let into the house and is begging through the window. The third photograph is my husband looking at me through our kitchen window. The framing of this picture is, of course, the window itself, but I also love the peaches lined up at the bottom of the window sill. The fourth photograph is my son, Nolan, sitting in the driver’s seat of our parked car and peeking at me through the window. He was pretty excited about getting to sit in the driver’s seat for this framing photograph.
