figure vs. background
Figure versus background is about showing a noticeable difference between the main subject or subjects in the photograph that the background that is behind them. I chose to do this by really focusing on the subject in the foreground so that there is a distinct difference in the background. For the header image, I just showed a simple remote control very close-up, and the background is the TV that the remote controls. The remote is in focus, and that separates it from its background. The first showcase image shows my son, Nolan, in the river. He stands out among the background of the river, trees, and other kids swimming in the river. The next showcase photograph is one of my favorites. It shows the raindrops, which are the main subject of the photograph, on the window in clear focus, but you can also see the contrasting background of the pasture, mountains, and sky. The third showcase photograph is some dangling berries, and their background is not only some leaves and other berries, but there is also a barn wall in the background as well, which is quite a contrast from the nearly black berries. The last image is of my daughter, Savannah, standing out from the background of the grass and the stage.
